Our Story
Scranton Auto Service started with Tom, a lifelong engine builder who spent years working in a well-known local machine shop. His experience included high-performance engine work, such as building engines for Budweiser racing speedboats. After learning that he was expecting a child, Tom decided to build something closer to home and opened his first repair shop. That decision became the foundation of what Scranton Auto Service is today.
About a decade ago, the business moved to its current location in Scranton, allowing the shop to grow, expand services, and better serve local drivers. As the shop continued to develop, Tom brought in John to help support the next stage of growth.
A Team Built on Experience and Real-World Skills
John’s path to the automotive world wasn’t traditional, but it’s what makes the shop what it is today. After spending 15 years managing grocery stores, he developed strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of day-to-day operations and customer service. Growing up on a farm also meant learning how to fix tractors, equipment, and anything else that needed to run reliably.
Over time, a friendship with local mechanics next door to his grocery store job sparked a deeper interest in automotive work. A simple oil change visit eventually led to a career shift, and he never left the shop.
Today, John helps run Scranton Auto Service with a focus on efficiency, communication, and customer experience, while also gradually transitioning toward future ownership of the business.
